My career has not been determined by any higher vision that I have been aware of but rather by nudges of circumstance and what piques my interest in the moment.
Retrospectively the many career decisions of my life have seemed almost inconsequential. Here are the first 7 that come to mind!
1. Leaving school, I wanted to go to college but had no idea what I wanted to study. I chose a course they were paying people to do. I learnt computer programming
2. After a year in my first job I realised that I hadn't spent enough time as a student 😂 so I focused on getting into a course that included a paid placement to fund my studies. I now have a business degree in Computer Systems.
3. I wasn’t in the top percentile at college so no one was knocking on my door to give me a job. I had to do the door knocking. I was told this was the reason I was offered a coveted systems programming job at Motorola.
4. I tried very hard to stay in Ireland but after 3 redundancies I ‘took the boat’ to the UK, did a slew of interviews and took the first job that was offered with one of the first PC Based Imaging Companies in the UK. This opened up me up to a career in leading edge technologies.
5. Another redundancy in the UK and I seized the opportunity to use my payout to travel for 2 years which gave me a taste and the confidence for freelancing. I have been self-employed now for 30 years.
6. Once in the swing of freelancing boredom set in; time to go back to college again 😎 I had a passing interested in alternative health so set my sights on an MA in Medical Anthropology. Strangely this opened up me up to leadership, mentoring and coaching. I was invited to join the Rockstar Group as a Start Up Tech mentor.
7. My experience with the MA made me curious about what other skills and talents I may have. I sought out a coach, did some career profiling which highlighted I was more right brained and creative than I realised. Randomly I connected with ex Tech Sales guy teaching intuition and I embarked on, what turned out to be, a 10 year apprenticeship in imagination.
Coaching, teaching, consulting and facilitating the technology of imagination is now my full time work.
Who knew that would be the path?!

I now work with people to follow their inner wisdom, to have a career, build a business and live fully aligned lives.
