The word habit comes from the Latin 'habere' to have and points to inherent, embodied qualities rather than the traditional understanding of habits as actions taken on a daily basis.
Our inherent embodied qualities determine our behaviour - also derived from the same Latin root - how we are in life and what we model to others. In this sense we are ALL leaders.
However ALL leaders are not great leaders.
The hallmarks of a great leader are that they:
1. Are grounded and present in a world full of chaos and uncertainty
2. Know their true direction, purpose and mission
3. Identify true action and have the strength of character to follow through
4. Have the courage to be authentic and fully self-expressed
5. Recognise and change behaviours that no longer serve them
6. See, acknowledge and champion true spirit in othersÂ
7. Thrive in all aspects of life – materially, physically, emotionally and spiritually
8. Welcome the momentum of exponential resultsÂ
9. Create and embrace the full experience of the human journey
Sadhguru said "If you can remain without thought, great power will come."
This is the one habit that distinguishes a great leader. This habit serves them to recognise how they are in life and what they model to others, to evaluate their behaviours and consciously cultivate how they want to show up and the impact that they want to have.
Being a great leader is available to all of us when we make a habit of being without thought.
